Effect of the purified unsaponifiable fraction of soybean in combination with ursodeoxycholic acid on cholesterol saturation of bile and stone dissolution in gallstone patients.

چکیده
The effects of pharmaceutical preparation of the unsaponifiable fraction of soybean (MRG), ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) and their combined treatment on lithogenic index (L. L) and gallstone dissolution were clinically investigated in gallstone patients. When seven patients with cholelithiasis were given UDCA alone at a daily dose of 300 or 400 mg during ca. 5 months, their L. L were cleary decreased in almost cases and the biliary cholesterol concentration in 6 patients treated by MRG alone also tended to decrease. In another group, four gallstone patients were treated during first ca. one year by UDCA alone at a daily dose of 450 mg, followed by a combined therapy of UDCA (450 mg/day) with MRG (9 g/day) for ave. 6 months. A certain reduction of L. L through the treatment of UDCA alone was further reinforced by the subsequent simultaneous use of UDCA and MRG. In fourth group, the combined UDCA (300-450 mg/day)-MRG (9 g/day) treatment was performed for 9 patients with gallbladder stones during ca. 4. 5 months aiming at the dissolution of gallstones. It must be noted that in three out of nine subjects, the complete dissolution was observed (dissolution percentage 33. 3% during ave. 4. 5 months) as well as a general decrease of L. L in most cases of this group. These results indicate that MRG additively or synergistically enhance the clinical potency of UDCA in the dissolution of gallstones 71

Efficacy of Magnesium Trihydrate of Ursodeoxycholic Acid and Chenodeoxycholic Acid for Gallstone Dissolution: A Prospective Multicenter Trial
BACKGROUND/AIMS Cholecystectomy is necessary for the treatment of symptomatic or complicated gallbladder (GB) stones, but oral litholysis with bile acids is an attractive alternative therapeutic option for asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic patients. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of magnesium trihydrate of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) and chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) on galls...
متن کاملMedical treatment of biliary duct stones: effect of ursodeoxycholic acid administration.
Twenty-eight patients with radiolucent biliary duct stones without cholangitis and jaundice were randomly allocated into two treatment groups receiving ursodeoxycholic acid 12 mg/kg (group A) or placebo (group B) in three daily doses for 24 months. In group A stones disappeared completely in seven patients and partially in one; placebo administration had no effect on stone size and three patien...
متن کاملEffect of beta-muricholic acid on the prevention and dissolution of cholesterol gallstones in C57L/J mice.
This study investigated whether beta-muricholic acid, a natural trihydroxy hydrophilic bile acid of rodents, acts as a biliary cholesterol-desaturating agent to prevent cholesterol gallstones and if it facilitates the dissolution of gallstones compared with ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA). For gallstone prevention study, gallstone-susceptible male C57L mice were fed 8 weeks with a lithogenic diet (...
متن کاملThe effects of chenodiol on biliary lipids and their association with gallstone dissolution in the National Cooperative Gallstone Study (NCGS).
The National Cooperative Gallstone Study was a double-masked trial conducted to determine the efficacy and safety of chenodeoxycholic acid (chenodiol) for dissolution of cholesterol gallstones. Patients with radiolucent gallstones were randomly allocated to either a high dose (750 mg/d, n = 305) or low dose (375 mg/d, n = 306) of chenodiol or placebo (n = 305) administered for 2 yr. Specimens o...
متن کاملEffects of ileal resection on biliary lipids and bile acid composition in patients with Crohn's disease.
Biliary lipid composition, cholesterol saturation, and bile acid pattern were determined in fasting duodenal bile of 10 patients (four men and six women, mean age 41 years) with Crohn's disease and a history of ileal resection (mean 64 cm). The data were compared with corresponding values in a group of healthy subjects. None of the patients with Crohn's disease had supersaturated bile. Choleste...
